Although the weather has been all over the place in L.A. lately, I’m officially on summer break from school and so the season might as well have already begun. You know what that means: closet overhaul! Is it just me, or does with every new season come that feeling that you have no appropriate clothes to wear!? I feel like I’m constantly wearing the same exact outfits week after week… it’s time to breathe a little life into my wardrobe! For summer, I want to keep things simple with versatile staple pieces that I can wear a ton of different ways. I’ve been doing a little “window shopping” online and found several styles that I want to use to guide my summer style switch up.
First up, I am in desperate need of new sandals. Shoes are probably the article of clothing I shop for least… I run my shoes into the ground before buying new ones, no pun intended. My favorite style for summer sandals are strappies that feel secure on my feet.
As for tops, I like ones that feel super light and airy since it can get up to about 115 degrees here during the hot months. Specifically, I’m looking into finding a good chambray top, which seems to be the collective style must have of the season.
I’m a big fan of sundresses, although sometimes it’s hard to find ones that can be made appropriate for activities other than backyard barbeques. A bright, belted shirt-dress would be perfect for me to take from office to summer night out. I also am in need of more jeans that can be dressed up or down with a fitted cut and minimal embellishments.
While I’m the type of girl who typically has one purse for EVERYTHING, I’ve decided I need a smaller going-out bag for me to just carry the essentials in. Sometimes having a huge tote with you can bog you down when you’re on the move.
Besides those staples, I want to add some flare to my summer wardrobe with cute statement styles— like the ones from the new LC Minnie Mouse Collection by Lauren Conrad. It’s pretty much the epitome of cuteness, and I love how some of the pieces don’t completely scream DISNEY, but still have that whimsical feel. Add a few scarves and hats, and I think I’ll have a good basis for my summer style!
