A new movie adaptation of “Father of the Bride” hits HBO Max on June 16. Like the “Father of the Bride” movies before it, this new film follows a father who begins to panic as preparations for his daughter’s wedding begin.
This version is set in Miami with a Cuban-American family. Garcia plays the family’s patriarch, Billy, and Gloria Estefan plays his wife, Ingrid. At the start of the film, the couple is on the brink of divorce. When their daughter announces her engagement to a man they’ve never met, Billy and Ingrid decide to put announcing their separation on hold until the big day passes.

Andy Garcia is the third actor to take on the patriarch role in “Father of the Bride,” following Spencer Tracy and Steve Martin, who played the titular character in the 1950 and 1991 adaptations, respectively.
In addition to Garcia and Estefan, the cast of “Father of the Bride” includes Adria Arjona, Isabela Merced, Diego Boneta, and Chloe Fineman. Early reviews for the new movie are positive; it has an “83% fresh” rating on review-aggregator Rotten Tomatoes as of June 15.

You can watch “Father of the Bride” beginning June 16 on HBO Max. The movie is a Max Original, so the
