Minecraft’s seas hold many of their own thrilling adventures, like taking on the Guardians of an Ocean Monument, or looting the many Shipwrecks covering the ocean floor. If you’re considering any of these challenges, you might want to make your life easier with a Potion of Water Breathing. So here’s our guide on how to brew just that.
What is Minecraft’s Potion of Water Breathing?
A Potion of Water Breathing in Minecraft will do pretty much what you might expect – it helps you breath under water. As soon as you go underwater in Minecraft, you’ll start losing air. Once it runs out, you’ll start drowning… and you only get a few seconds to get to the surface. So a potion of Water Breathing is just as useful as it sounds, too. As mentioned above, there are plenty of reasons you might want to spend time underwater in Minecraft. And they don’t just stop with Ocean Monuments and Shipwrecks, as underwater exploration can provide a whole new way to discover Minecraft’s vast cave systems.
How to make a Potion of Water Breathing
To make a Potion of Water Breathing in Minecraft, you’re going to need to start by going fishing. This is because the main ingredient in the potion in a Pufferfish, only obtainable through fishing. Or killing a Pufferfish or Guardian, but fishing is far safer.
Once you have the pufferfish item, you’ll need the usual Minecraft potion-making ingredients; water bottles, Blaze Powder and Nether Wart. Insert the Water Bottles (up to three) into the bottle slots, the Blaze Powder into the fuel slot, and the Nether Wart into the ingredient slot to make an Awkward Potion. Then, add the Pufferfish to the ingredient slot to turn those Awkward potions into three-minute Potions of Water Breathing.
How to make an extended Potion of Water Breathing
If you want to make your potions last longer, you can add Redstone dust into the ingredient slot, and your potions will now last eight minutes each.
Finally, take a look at our general guide on how to brew Minecraft Potions if you’re considering a Lingering or Splash Potion – though they might not be all that useful when it comes to Water Breathing.
